Nanotechnology
is the one of the key industries in 21st century whose great results are yet to
come in the world of medicine, military industry, computer technology etc.
It
represents the possibility of managing materials in nano size for the purpose
of creating the structures with whole new characteristics due to its size, form
and texture. These forms are smaller than 100 nm. Nanometer is a millionth part
of a meter, which is almost 100 000 times less than a cut of a human hair and
100 times less than sizes used in production commercially nowadays.
With organizing the
atoms in structures of a different forms and sizes in nano size, it is possible
to manage different characteristics, including electrical, optical and physical
ones. In nano size those characteristics can significantly vary in relation
with those of the same material in a larger, usual size. When used in producing
the final product this technology enables advantages of simple forms of nano
structures.
The word
"nano" means "dwarf" and is, among other things, used as an abbreviation for
one billionth- billionth part of a meter is a nanometer. To compare, imagine
ourselves in relation to 7 billion people on our planet. Unbelievable, isn't
it?
We can talk
about nanotechnology as long as we talk about sizes smaller than 100
nanometers.
